DOUG KINNEY: LIVES CAPTURED Doug Kinney’s work reflects the essence of daily life; from its comical characters to its burdened souls. He records memories from his job as a Seattle bus driver and from elsewhere in life.

“I work on paper or canvas, drawing with oil crayons, then doing a wash over the drawing. While making a mark, I don’t always question why; which leaves me to make most marks without thinking. The reason I produce art is to have a dialogue with myself. I want to question using a language that is only known to my subconcious. A dialogue using people and places, shapes, color, light and dark. It’s kind of like writing letters...” – Doug Kinney

BUS STOP SERIES These are very large unstretched canvases of scenes from bus stops painted in a loose wet-on-wet style.

LANDSCAPES These are medium to large paperworks painted with a very rigorous wet-on-wet technique. In these three examples we see that Doug has a total mastery of his medium and can truly let the paint work its own magic. You get a large dose of visual stimuli and emotional range from each painting, all of this is gracefully directed and given purpose in his refreshing and surreal environments.

MORE ABOUT DOUG Doug Kinney went to school as a printmaker and started painting ten years ago. He won the 1998 Center on Contemporary Art Annual Best in Show award.
