JULY 2007 River Roots Paulette Mentor (Widow of Former Bremerton Mayor Louis Mentor) will be exhibiting paintings from her Paducah, Kentucky studio. Mentor's paintings represent her zest for life. Her work is comprised of blasts of color that shuttle between translucency and opacity, waving and weaving, in constant motion, yet remaining frozen in time. It’s painting in its purest form; invigorating and rewarding. Collection Each month we try to purchase at least one work of art from an exhibiting artist. This month, we purchased, traded, and received as a gift three pieces by our exhibiting artists. While attending "Venus" a group show at the Roq La Rue Gallery in Belltown, Seattle, we purchased McCourt's twisted lulaby of a painting titled "Simone". Also this month Don Wesley traded "The Creeper Re-Mix" to Malia Macheel for her mixed media jewel "My Chemical Romance". And finally, long time friend and art neighbor Doug Kinney presented Don with a signature piece titled "Taking the kid to the zoo with balloon". AUGUST 2007 The Wizened Art Ladies of Bremerton In August, painter Gwendolyn Atwood shares a unique show of the founding women of Bremerton's art scene. Atwood will paint portraits of each artist. Then each of those artists will choose a piece of their own art to hang along side their Atwood portrait. How cool is that? You won't want to miss Atwood's transformation of the gallery space nor her insight and testament to the founding sisters of Bremerton's art scene. Artists to be depicted are Augusta Asberry, Gwendolyn Atwood, Dede Beckley, Amy Burnett, Janthina DuSavage, Jean Freeburg, Rose Smith, Bernice Walsh, Hazel Witte, and Jenny Zurbrugg.
